Brainy Kids - Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
Brainy Kids does not collect, store, or share any personal information. All game data stays on your device and in your private iCloud account. The only thing we ever receive is fully anonymous game ratings (👍/👎) when you choose to send them — see "Anonymous Game Ratings" below. Optional purchases are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
Overview
Brainy Kids is a brain training app designed for all ages. We take privacy seriously, especially because our app is used by children. This policy explains what data the app uses and how it is handled.
Information We Do Not Collect
Brainy Kids does not collect any personal information. Specifically:
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact information.
- We do not use third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks.
- We do not display advertisements.
- We do not use third-party SDKs that collect data.
- We do not track location or device identifiers.
- We do not associate any data we receive with a specific user, device, or profile.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following data locally on your device to provide its functionality:
- Player profiles: A display name, avatar emoji or photo, and month/year of birth that you choose during setup. This information never leaves your device (or your private iCloud account if you enable sync).
- Game progress: Scores, experience points, completed challenges, earned badges, and brain skill levels.
- Preferences: Theme selection, sound settings, and difficulty feedback.
All of this data is stored using Apple's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults) and is not accessible to us or any third party.
iCloud Sync
If you choose to enable iCloud sync, your game progress and profiles are stored in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data is:
- Stored in your personal, private iCloud container.
- Only accessible by you, on devices signed in to your iCloud account.
- Not accessible to us or any third party.
- Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
iCloud sync is optional and can be disabled in the app's Settings.
Anonymous Game Ratings
Each game's menu screen has an optional 👍 / 👎 button so you can tell us whether you enjoy it. If — and only if — you tap one of these, the app sends us:
- The name of the game (e.g. "Sudoku")
- Whether you tapped 👍 or 👎
- The version of the app you are using
- The date and time of the rating
That is the entire payload. We never receive your name, your profile, your device ID, your iCloud ID, your IP address (beyond what Apple's CloudKit infrastructure handles transparently), or anything else that could identify you. We use only Apple's first-party CloudKit framework — no third-party server, SDK, or analytics product is involved. The data is stored in our own CloudKit Public Database and we look at it in aggregate to decide which games to invest in or retire. You can opt out of every game's rating simply by not tapping the buttons.
Subscriptions & In-App Purchases
The core Brainy Kids experience — the original twelve games and their daily challenges — is, and always will be, completely free. The app also offers optional paid upgrades:
- Brainy Kids Plus — an optional auto-renewable subscription that unlocks additional games, content, and features.
- Content packs — optional one-time purchases that add extra words, images, or themes.
These purchases do not change what data we collect — we still collect no personal information. Specifically:
- We never see your payment details. All purchases are processed entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We do not receive or store your card number, billing address, or any other payment information.
- We do not receive your identity. To unlock what you have paid for, the app asks Apple's on-device StoreKit framework whether a valid subscription or purchase exists. This check happens on your device and is not linked to your name, your profile, or any identifier we hold.
- No purchase data is sold or shared. We do not use purchase information for advertising or tracking, and we never share it with third parties.
- Children cannot purchase on their own. Every purchase screen is placed behind a parental gate (a short challenge an adult must complete) so a child cannot start or pay for a subscription without an adult. Purchases are also subject to your device's Screen Time and Ask to Buy / Family Sharing settings.
You can review, manage, or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Purchases are governed by Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. For the full subscription terms, see our Terms of Use.
Camera and Photo Library
The app offers optional features that use the camera and photo library:
- Profile photo: You may optionally take or choose a photo as your profile avatar. This photo is stored locally on your device (and in your private iCloud if sync is enabled). It is not uploaded anywhere else.
- Celebration photos: After completing daily challenges, you may take a celebratory photo. This photo is saved only to your device's photo library. It is not uploaded or shared by the app.
Camera and photo library access require your explicit permission via iOS system prompts. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
Children's Privacy
Brainy Kids is designed to be safe for children of all ages. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations:
- We do not collect personal information from children (or anyone).
- We do not display advertising.
- Optional purchases and any links to external websites are placed behind a parental gate, so they are not part of the child-facing experience.
- We do not enable children to share information publicly.
- All data remains on the device or in the family's private iCloud account.
Data Deletion
You can delete all app data at any time:
- Individual profiles can be deleted from the profile selection screen (long-press a profile).
- All data can be erased from the Settings screen using the "Reset All Data" option.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
